Mike 0:33
And here we are, Dad's On-Books.
David Patrick, Michael Walker. Mike Walker.
David 0:40
Dave Patrick. You're not a David. I'm totally a David. No, Dave.
Mike 0:44
I'm only a David when I'm Michael David. Only my parents call ne that..
David 0:49
Oh,
Mike 0:49
Oh,
David 0:49
wow! And someone called me Davey once. Whoa.
Mike 0:52
Whoa.
David 0:53
Once.
Mike 0:55
Are they still alive.
David 0:56
My attorney said that I shouldn't comment.
[evil chuckle]
Mike 1:01
Uh.
David 1:02
Uh. Good stuff.
Mike 1:03
Yeah. So, hear we are on Dad's On-Books and... Our book... This week... Is...
David 1:10
Frog and Toad, Our Friends.
Mike 1:13
Frog and Toad, Our Friends.
David 1:14
By Arnold Lobel. Lobel? I don't know.
Mike 1:18
I don't know either, and I meant to look for that, because I did find it. That was like, what the... how? And I never got around to it.
David 1:26
And I've been threatening... This is the sixth episode where I have threatened to do research ahead of time, or at least your research after I read and before we talk. Talk. Maybe that'll be the case for episode seven. Stay tuned.
Mike 1:39
Maybe.
David 1:41
Mm-hmm. But for now.
Mike 1:44
For now. now. Um...
David 1:46
Only for now. For now. Only for... you have, obviously, seen...
Mike 1:50
We have got to not do that, because what if they come back and go oh, um, you can't put that on your show. So we didn't think too much of it this time.
David 1:59
Yeah. Exactly. Less than seven words, isn't that the law?
Mike 2:02
Well, only for now.
David 2:04
Ha ha ha. Well, in a shocking move, uh... When you and I riff, it reminds me of something to be mentioned. When we actually do something silly, like talk about the book.
Mike 2:19
Whoa.
David 2:19
That we were planning to talk about and we will. And I'll just say this, the eyes.
The little jingle that you may or may not have heard, depending upon how Mike edits this episode. That little jingle is related to what certain puppet eyes can look like. And it's one of the observations I have from the art in this wonderful book.
Mike 2:40
Ah, Uh, interesting. Very cool. so I did do some research on this book. you want to tell us what the book is about?
David 2:48
Yes. Although I might call it books. Uh, Frog and Toad Are Friends. Is a book, although it is, as I learned a little bit through reading it. It's actually five different stories that are unrelated.
Mike 3:02
Which it has always been a book though.
David 3:06
Well, you answered my question
Mike 3:07 of five stories.
David 3:09
Well, the research that I did do is on page I, I, I or whatever it is, I did check and see. When was this written? Because this is one of the books that you read as a child, but I didn't. I discovered this book or books with my daughter's education, but it was copyright 1970. And as I read into the stories, I thought, is this an amalgam and or a collection of, of separate books and what you're telling me is not .
Mike Walker 3:34
it is not. it has always been these five, five stories.
That's why my favorite number is five. because this is one of favorite books. When I was five probably.
David 3:46
A lot of fives. So really, so this was one of your favorite all times for when you were a kid.
Mike Walker 3:50
Yeah.
David Patrick 3:52
I don't remember anything, but the cover and going back and reading it, I started remembering
something, but yeah, it was one of my favorites. Yeah.
David 4:02
Well, my origin story of frog and toad are friends is during that fourth quarter of the 19 hyphen, 20 school year when we went away for spring break
Mike 4:16
19 slash. Yeah. Yeah. Sorry. I thought you said 1920 school year. I'm like,
Mike 4:20
dude, we're not that old.
David 4:23
For those of you who are watching any video, oil of Olay is my trick to hide the fact that I'm a hundred 57 years old.
Mike 4:29
Nice.
David 4:30
No, but the point is, you know, we went for spring break in 2020. And never went back. And so for our school, fourth quarter at home, we didn't have synchronous live classes, but there were some videos with My middle daughter, Sarah was in first grade. And that is when they started reading some frog and toad stories had she been at regular school. I probably never would have known about it. But because of that, I got to read the first one and thought, this is really, really
Mike 5:02
Absolutely. I agree. So now will you tell us what the story is about
David Patrick 5:05
Yes. So frog and toad our friends hence the name. Yep. they are five separate stories spring number two is the story number three is a lost button
David Patrick 5:46
